As the owner of a creative agency with a team of 20 employees, I don’t have a lot of time to devote to anything, let alone payroll and HR. We chose Gusto because everyone in my agency mastermind group were raving about it. And it’s worked quite well for us. That doesn’t mean it will work for everybody. They are very software as a service focused. So the customer service can be hit and miss sometimes, but generally it’s fine and we don’t have any issues. I’ve layed out a bunch of the reasons I appreciate Gusto, and some other related Gusto articles below.

Gusto is a User-Friendly and Intuitive Platform
Gusto’s platform is straightforward and easy to navigate, which is important for us as a creative agency. We have designers and web developers on staff who get anoyed very easily when a tool we use is not intuitive and designed poorly. We value intuitive design, and Gusto delivers on that front. Setting up payroll for new employees, processing payments, and generating reports are all tasks we can handle with minimal hassle. This ease of use saves us time and lets us focus more on our needy clients.
Gusto Has Comprehensive Payroll Features
Gusto provides a range of payroll features that fit our needs:
Automatic Payroll Processing:
This feature ensures that our team gets paid on time, without requiring constant manual input.
Direct Deposit and Pay Options
Our team appreciates the convenience of direct deposit, especially those who travel or work remotely.
Tax Compliance
Gusto manages all payroll tax calculations and filings, helping us stay compliant with federal, state, and local regulations.
Employee Self-Service
Employees can access their pay stubs and tax forms through Gusto’s online portal, which reduces the administrative load on our HR team.
Seamless Integration with Other Tools
Gusto integrates with many of the tools we use daily, such as QuickBooks for accounting and TSheets for time tracking. These integrations help streamline our workflows and minimize errors. The ability to connect Gusto with our existing systems has made payroll management more efficient for us.
Gusto has Pretty Good Customer Support
On a scale of Comcast (Pure Evil) to HelpScout (Great), Gusto falls closer to HubScout than Comcast, but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t improve thier customer service. That being said, we haven’t had that many issues and even the few mishaps were eventually rectified. We’ve never had any of the major issues we had with our last payroll company, so that’s definitely a relief. Gusto offers live chat, email, and phone support, which is great.
Gusto has Easy Benefits Administration
Gusto also helps us manage employee benefits, including health insurance and retirement plans. Having these services in one place simplifies administration. Our employees and register for their benefits and make choices and fill out enrollment forms in their Gusto accounts. There’s no paperwork and it’s easy to add additional benefits and options for employees.
Overall, Gusto Works Better Than Anything Else We’ve Tried
For our creative agency, Gusto has been a reliable payroll solution that supports our needs. So far I haven;t seen any of Gusto’s competitors come close to their feature set. And generally, that would probably be a good thing. I’m all for competition. But for now Gusto works great for us. It streamlines processes, ensures compliance, and frees up time for us to focus on creative work. While every business is different, we’ve found Gusto to be a good fit for our agency.
